The neighbor's dog entered the yard by digging underneath the fence and attacked this dog, causing severe injuries from multiple bite wounds. We were able to secure donations to help cover the cost of his surgery and medical treatment. The surgery was necessary due to the extent of the injuries sustained during the attack. Fortunately, he responded well to treatment and made a successful recovery.
Miriam and her husband has always had a special love for cats. At Dans workplace, he noticed several stray cats that appeared underweight and in need of care. Concerned for their well-being, he began feeding them regularly.
Today, there are five community cats that he cares for every day, providing food each morning and evening. We affectionately refer to them as "our community cats."
Most of the expenses for their care come directly from our own budget. While we occasionally receive donations, the majority of the food is purchased out of our own pockets. We provide dry food, treats, and canned food to help ensure the cats remain healthy, well-fed, and cared for.
While traveling to Snowville, we parked in front of a property where we discovered seven Huskies living under concerning conditions. All of the dogs were tied up in chains. Although they appeared to be adequately fed, they were clearly being neglected and were exposed year-round to harsh weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and summer heat.
After speaking with the family, they allowed us to assist in improving the dogs' living conditions.
As a result of these efforts, four of the seven Huskies were ultimately rescued and placed into loving adoptive homes. They are now living in safe environments where they receive proper care, attention, and the companionship they deserve. For the others, we helped upgrade their shelters, provided new tethering systems, and installed long cable runs that allowed the dogs to move freely throughout a much larger area rather than being confined to a single spot.
We are constantly helping dogs and cats in need, including animals that are at risk of euthanasia in shelters. Many of these animals are rescued by rescue organizations, sometimes located in other states. When that happens, transportation becomes a critical part of saving their lives.
Our role is to help move these animals from the shelter to their rescue organization, foster home, or final destination. To accomplish this, we work with a network of compassionate volunteers who generously donate their time to transport dogs and cats. The journey is often divided into multiple segments, allowing different volunteers to assist along the route.
Tania plays a vital role in this effort as both a transport coordinator and a volunteer driver. In addition to organizing transportation routes and coordinating volunteers, she frequently drives animals herself. I also assist with transports whenever needed, as these trips can be demanding and often require more than one person.
While many of these transports involve animals rescued from shelters, we also provide transportation assistance for dogs and cats in a variety of circumstances whenever help is needed. Our goal is to ensure that animals can safely reach the care, treatment, rescues, or permanent homes they deserve.
This dog has a particularly heartbreaking story. He was born on the streets to a pair of Pit Bulls owned by a homeless couple who bred dogs and sold the puppies in an effort to support their drug addiction. As a puppy, he was sold to another homeless family and spent his entire life living on the streets.
We followed his journey as he grew up. Through our work with Angels in Action, we regularly provide food and supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness and to their pets. We prepare care packages containing dry food, canned food, and treats, enough to help feed a pet for one to two weeks. Every other Sunday, we travel throughout Salt Lake City to distribute these supplies directly to those in need.
This dog remained with his family for approximately three years. During that time, we helped provide food and support to ensure he was cared for as best as possible. Sadly, he was eventually taken by another homeless individual, and since then, we have not known what became of him.
Today, the family has another puppy, and we continue to help by providing food and supplies for their current dog. Although we no longer know where this dog is, we remain hopeful that he is safe, healthy, and receiving the love and care he deserves. He is a reminder of the difficult lives many pets live and the importance of our mission.
